Mio Moov 580 Satellite Navigator
December 31, 2008
Dong dong….” The clock struck eight. “Yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiippppesssssssssssss!” shrieked Sasha as she jumped out of bed. Frightened by her scream, her mother came running to her room.
“What’s the matter my child?”, she asked in a concerned voice.
“I have a meeting to attend at 9 mother. I’m already late and you know how angry the boss gets.”, said Sasha as she rushed to freshen up.
The next 15 minutes saw Sasha getting dressed for her meeting, gobbling up her food and making a dash to the nearest bus station. As she hurried along the road, a million thoughts ran in her mind. “I need to travel so far…. Will I get a bus soon?… Oh God! What if there is a traffic jam….The boss might just fire me if I’m late…Oh no….” A car that passed by, stopped a little further and a familiar face with a broad smile peeped out the window.
“Sarah! I’m so glad I saw you. Don’t you think we’ll be late for today’s meeting?” asked Sasha.
“Hop in. We won’t be late.”, said Sarah confidently.
As she got into the car, Sasha kept wondering how Sarah, her colleague, could maintain her cool in this situation.
“I have a new friend here with me.”, said Sarah.
“Where? I don’t see anyone.”, said Sasha, looking all around.
Sarah, pointed to a compact device planted on a stand on the dashboard and said, “Meet Mio Moov 580 Satellite Navigator.”
”You mean the device that helps you find your way to your destination?”, asked Sasha, looking at the device.
“Yes. That’s right. And lots more too. Watch for yourself now. I got it a couple of weeks back. Was thinking of suggesting it to our colleagues in office. You know how everyone complains of traffic jams and not being able to reach places they intend to go to, on time.”, said Sarah. After a short pause, she continued, “I have already entered our destination on the map displayed on the screen. It is touch sensitive. You must see how fast it locates where exactly I am when I switch it on. And why not. The instantfixII SirstarIII controller chip is working its magic behind.”
Sasha looked at the screen and saw a coloured map, showing plenty of details with 3D images, of their surroundings, and exactly where they were on the road. As they drove, she was really amazed to see the sat-nav guiding them through the city with clear audible voice instructions, telling them where exactly to turn and names of streets and junctions on their way. The map was also showing directions. “Very helpful.”, thought Sasha in her mind.
“This smarty here guides me always on my way. You know its’ FM transmitter is tuned to my car speakers. That’s why we can hear it so well.”, said Sarah.
“You always have been a technology freek, right?”, asked Sasha, smiling at her colleague. Sarah smiled back in response and chirped away excitedly, “There’s so much about it if you really want to find out. Samsung’s 2450 processor does all the hard work inside. It also has a USB port and a slot for SD cards. I can transfer more maps and other details using these, you know.”
The journey was quite pleasant until all of a sudden Sasha remembered something and almost jumped in her seat and exclaimed, “Bouquets! We need to buy bouquets for the clients who would be visiting office today. Oh no! Where can we find bouquets now?”
Sarah, who was still driving and seemed just as calm as she was before the sudden reminder, said, ”Relax. Just watch now.”
She used the “Local search” feature of the navigator that used bluetooth, to locate the nearest florist. The wrinkles of worry on Sasha’s forehead suddenly vanished and a smile broke out on her lips when she saw the sat-nav working out the detour for them to pick up the bouquets. Within a few minutes they arrived at the florists, picked up the bouquets and were back on their way to office. “Phew! That was fast!”, said a relieved Sasha.

There was silence in the car for a while, except for the smart co-traveller who kept giving guiding instructions. Then came an alert from the device, indicating a traffic jam on their way ahead.
Sasha, who was quite astonished, exclaimed, “Hey! How did it know what’s ahead! Some sort of 6th sense eh?”
Sarah, who was in her usual jovial mood replied, “Hehe. You can say so. Its the built-in Traffic module that lets you know in advance if there are problems on the road ahead.”
The navigator again helped them out with a detour and it did not take them long to get back on track.
As they drove on, Sarah suddenly received a call on her cell. Sasha was again catapulted into her world of worry, thinking that they might have to stop by, for answering the call.
Sarah, who understood her colleague’s expression, calmed her down saying, “My dear Miss Worried Pie, don’t under-estimate technology. We don’t have to stop.” She then attended the call using the hands-free bluetooth feature of the device. Sasha smiled again.
Within a couple of minutes, they reached the office. Sasha, getting out of the car, with a beaming face and a sparkle in her eye, said, “We made it.”
As they walked into the office building, their eyes fell on a colourful notice stuck on the board, which read - “Treasure Hunt in the city this weekend. Win exciting prizes. Register as a group of 2”.
Sarah looked at Sasha, with excitement in her eyes.
Sasha with an air of confidence said, “You’re getting your Mio Moov 580 Satellite Navigator? Count me in. We’ll register during the break.”
They smiled and proceeded to their meeting hall, only to discover that they were the first ones to arrive for the meeting.
