Light houses has been serving aweary fisherman for years to find their way to home after a long day sea. But the lighthouses found near important ports may be soon turned off. Experts believe that the development of hi technology is the route cause of the problem. Most watercraft and even smaller ones now a days use GPS satellite navigation system and no longer depend on the lighthouse beam.
It is been found out from a report that lighthouses around England like the General Lighthouse Authority for England, Eastbourne’s Beachy Head, the Channel Islands, Trinity House, Wales, and Gibraltar are consulting a proposal to turned off the light. The current move is not an cost cutting exercise but was a part of review of all its navigational aids that also includes
Even though fisherman’s has got all navigational aids, the lighthouse are quiet useful at the night time for easier identification. Leisure users can completely rely on sat navigation. They can go out at night even in poor visibility trusting the navigation device, but not in case of fisherman’s. Satellite navigation tend to fail at times and by depending upon it totally may ruin the mariners, making them take an unfamiliar route.
More than a fisherman’s aid, lighthouses do attract tourist for their majestic look and powerful light beam that pierce the night time of the sea. The lighthouses gaining less important are now used as towers making space for electronic navigation equipment. The issue of putting the lighthouses off is still being an issue with no actions taken.
