The Garmin Nuvi 1690 is a type of connected satellite navigator that allows users to get real-time information by using Google local search functionality. This device is integrated with the Garmin nuLink services that enable a user to receive real-time information wirelessly directly to the nuvi 1690. In the USA, this Garmin Nuvi 1690 Connected Satellite Navigator comes with a free 2-year nuLink subscription and includes Google local search facility to find the local POIs. Some additional services included in the subscription are Ciao! friend  finder, movie times, weather reports, local events, flight status, White pages etc. All of these can be viewed on the 4.3-inch touch sensitive display that offers a screen resolution of 480 x 272 pixels.

Garmin Nuvi 1690 Satellite Navigator comes preloaded with City Navigator NT street maps and almost 6 million POIs; and provides the ability to add additional maps and POIs. Along with accurate turn-by-turn visual route guidance, the device also provides regular clear voice instructions enabling the driver to concentrate on the road and drive safely. At one time the user can plan and save up to 10 routes on the device.
