Garmin Streetpilot C340, part of the C300 series, uses Garmin’s expertise in GPS navigation to the optimum. The color screens with 2D and 3D maps lead the way using the information from a pre-loaded database of locations which is constantly updated using the 12 parallel channel Garmin GTM 10 FM TMC receiver. The receiver proves 95 percent accurate in most metropolitan cities in the Europe, Canada, Puerto Rico and the US.
One can always be on the move with the Streetpilot C340 with its voice-based instructions along with visual navigational support over the 3.5” LCD monitor. It has around six million pre-loaded POIs (points of interest) like parks, emergency services, civic facilities, fuel stations, restaurants and hotels. It lets you set nearly 500 customized points of interest like school and hospitals. One can load in more maps using in-built SD card slot. It not only gives alerts about the points of interest but also about possible traffic jams on the way so that the route can be changed in time. It also charts out the best possible and also the shortest routes, which are constantly updated and color coded according to the traffic situation. If you take a wrong turn, the C340 automatically updates the information and guides you on the right way. You can identify each street and exit you pass without even looking at the screen because of the voice alerts. This Garmin bluetooth GPS System also saves the last fifty recently visited places for future use. With an acquisition time of 15-45 seconds and a continuous update rate of 1 update/second, the Streetpilot C340 puts its built-in patch antenna and MCX Type Connector to optimum use.
The Streetpilot C340’s look can be customized with color faceplates that have to be purchased separately. The ON/OFF switch and the volume control are the only two knobs. The entire operation is through the sleek touch-screen. Other useful technologies include a resettable odometer, average/maximum speed outputs, timers, Bluetooth technology, SiRF high-sensitivity GPS receiver, MP3 player and a trip computer. The POI Loader software which enables the loading of POIs can be downloaded for free from the company’s website.
