These days, satellite navigators have found uses in each and every sector. Of late there are many sat nav being developed for the aviation industry. These GPS units come with the capability of forecasting the weather as well as providing accurate information about the elevation. One such GPS unit is the BendixKing KSN 770 Satellite Navigator, which is believed to be the brainchild of Honeywell Corporation. This one was originally designed for Honeywell’s business aircraft’s cockpits. The KSN 770 has specifically designed to remain updated with the value added features that is required to meet the growing needs of the avionics field.
The BendixKing KSN 770 Aviation Satellite Navigator comes with large 5.7-inch Active Matrix LCD display that offers a full VGA resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. This sat nav is 6.25-inches wide, 5.25-inches high and about 10-inches thick. It has a weight of about 8.5lbs. This satellite navigator comes with WAAS compatibility and has received DO-178B, Level B, Level C and Level D Certifications, to name a few. It includes digital interfaces in order to display the weather radar, lightning and traffic information, EGPWS (Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System) and XM weather data. The other interfaces include video and audio inputs, remote annunciations and switches, digital and analog deviation outputs, air data inputs and a few additional ones for supporting future growth.
The BendixKing KSN 770 Satellite Navigator is a digital navigation and communication unit that includes an Advanced Flight Management System. Many aviation sat navs lack this facility. It thus comes with a graphical flight planning capability that can be utilised by most of the advanced business flight systems. On the device’s screen the map is constantly moving whilst displaying the varying terrain and topological features. It also displays the different safety sensors such as the XM weather, TAWS (Terrain Awareness and Warning System), etc. Unlike many of its competitive models it is expected to provide a 16-watt Digital VHF (very high frequency) Communication. It also displays the various charts and maps on the screen.
The BendixKing KSN 770 Integrated Satellite Navigator is in fact, a combination of four separate systems. It combines an an IFR GPS navigator, weather radar display, integrated TAWS and a 16-watt digital VHF comm. A integrated TAWS system cautions you against the terrain and topological obstructions occurring en-route. The weather radar provides you with regular weather forecasts, information regarding an upcoming storm or cloudy skies etc. This Bendix/King KSN 770 Satellite Navigator has been designed to enhance the cockpit layout as well as develop a real-time situation awareness factor. The most advanced and recent technologies have been incorporated in this device. Such advanced technologies are found mostly in jet and defence avionics. This Bendix/King KSN 770 Satellite Navigator can work as a standalone unit as well as work in unison with your existing GPS or autopilot programme.
