Garmin has announced another ultra-slim unit in the Nuvi series with the Garmin Nuvi 1490T Satellite Navigator. This portable unit is supposed to be almost 25% slimmer than the other Nuvi units. The Garmin Nuvi 1490T In-Car Satellite Navigator has a dimension of 13.7 x 8.6 x 1.6 cm and a weight of 221.1 grams. It is one of the first Garmin units to feature a wide 5-inch display with a 480×272 pixels resolution. The battery life provided by the rechargeable lithium-ion battery is however only 3 hours. The internal antenna is integrated with a high sensitivity receiver. It is compatible with microSD memory cards.
Garmin Nuvi 1490T Satellite Navigator is preloaded with the CityNavigator NT Street maps and nearly 6 million points of interests. Its digital elevation maps show you the shaded contours, hence providing you with a bigger picture of the surrounding terrain. It also provides the facility to add additional maps. This compact sat nav can store almost 1000 waypoints and 10 routes. Route guidance includes timely voice prompts and spoken street names. The lane assist functionality, directs you to take the correct lane on a highway. Routes can be calculated to multiple destinations at one go. It provides you to choose a preferredĀ type of route. It can also design a fuel efficient and eco-friendly route. Its speed limit alert prevents you from being pulled over for speeding issues. Its TMC compatibility provides you with real-time traffic data.
Garmin Nuvi 1490T Portable Multimedia Satellite Navigator comes with Bluetooth compatibility for hands free calling via any compatible handset. Additionally, this device can be transformed into a music player owing to its in-built MP3 player. Its is also equipped with a picture viewer that enables you to view photos. This gadget can also be used in pedestrian mode as in buses or metro rail system. Priced at $499.99, it is expected to hit the stores in June or July of 2009.
