truck-stuck-satellitenavigation.org.ukSick and tired of your satellite navigation system leading your lorry into unfit narrow lanes? Now here is some good news for you! Lorry-friendly sat-nav systems are now available from the Freight Transport Association. Introducing TomTom GO 7000, a satellite navigation system that guides lorry drivers so as to avoid narrow roads, low bridges and other unsuitable roads. By pre-programming the device with the vehicle’s dimensions and weight, the driver will be provided information concerning weight and speed restrictions, clearance heights and sharp turns that could pose problems.

The TomTom GO 7000 also lets drivers add access restriction information on their own and can also be used by vehicles of different sizes. James Firth, the policy manager at FTA said that the device will “help drivers to avoid obstacles on their delivery routes” and can save time and money and prevent “chaos along our urban and rural road networks.” He also added that drivers should not rely only on their sat-navs but also “pay attention to other indicators, like road and bridge signs.”

TomTom GO 7000 is now available for £379 and those who already own a TomTom GO system can opt for a Truck Navigation SD card to make it suitable for lorries and trucks. This SD card costs about £139.
