Garmin has introduced two new outdoor GPS units named as Dakota 10 and Dakota 20 targeted at the adventurous lot. These units are said to feature a 2.6-inch touch screen display, worldwide base map, a high sensitivity GPS receiver and a 20-hour battery life. These units are believed to be based on Garmin Oregon interface offering about 850MB of internal memory that can store up to 1000 waypoints, 2000 geo-caches, 50 routes and an active track log consisting of up to 10,000 points.
As compared to the Dakota 10, the Dakota 20 is believed to have some additional features that include a 3-axis compass, a microSD card slot, a barometric altimeter and a wireless connectivity for unit-to-unit for sharing data and information between similar compatible units. However both the units are compatible with the Garmin City Navigator NT for turn-by-turn directions, TOPO US 24k and 100k map software for terrain details and Blue Chart g2 for marine charting.
Expected to start shipping in August, these units are priced at $349.99 (Dakota 20) and $299.99 (Dakota 10).
