FCC has approved the Garmin Nuvi 1690 PND about a month ago, however its launch date and pricing details were under wraps. Now the latest GPS gadget from Garmin has received an official launch date. It is now scheduled to hit the stores by Christmas and is expected to cost about $499.99.
Users purchasing this Garmin 1690 PND are stated to be benefiting from a two years subscription of the Garmin nuLink service that comprises of useful applications such as Google search, real-time traffic info, white page listings, flight status updates, etc. to name a few. After two years the service costs just $5 per month. Apparently, a Ciao network access is also offered that users can use to connect with family and friends and navigate to their location.
This 1690 PND is reported to feature a ecoRoute function that calculates the most fuel efficient route to the destination. An integrated Bluetooth module allows hands free calls to be made using the unit. Although the $499.99 price for the unit seems to be a little on the higher side, the device’s in-built wireless module and other add-on features justify the price.
