Dell has announced that a GPS chip will be added to its Dell Mini 10 netbook enabling customers to track their whereabouts on the netbook. According to the company, the reason for inculcating location based technology in the netbook was triggered by the need to know their position details.
The Dell Wireless 700 kit is aimed at allowing a user to establish their position using Wi-Fi base station data owing to its combination of hardware and software. The hardware will be a built-in GPS card with the in-built wireless technology that can calculate your location using Wi-fi access points or GPS satellites. For the software section, the Dell Wireless 700 includes CoPilot navigational software for turn-by-turn directions.
Currently this has been designed to be compatible with Windows XP, however Dell has revealed that there are plans to add Windows Vista and Windows 7 compatibility in the near future. A launch date and pricing details are yet to be disclosed.
