SiRF, the established chip makers launched the latest fastfix satellite navigation chip, Star IV platform, with GSD4e chip that could be used in digital camcorders, compact cameras and games consoles.
Kanwar Chanda, co-founder of SiRF technology claimed that these chips could be also fixed into the watches. This enables the users to locate the parked car. “Another area where the GSD4e can be utilized would be videogames”, he said. He also stated that the GSD4e’s reduce impact on the battery of the gadget it has been fixed, is the main reason that the manufacturer aims to produce more number of GPS enabled products next year.
SiRF launched the Star IV platform, with GSD4t chip back in July that is intended to use in smartphones, the first gadget enabled with this technology. Like GSD4t new GSD4e has stand by mode option to minimize battery drain. An additional feature of “micro power mode”, which ensures that only relevant sectors of the receiver are powered on is enabled in this new chip. Also, these chips are said to be a faster locator-fixers.
Even though no much information is available on the products enabled with this new chip, company assures that around 2010, products with this new chip will be launched.
